Bishnoi Gang Canada: Lawrence Bishnoi Network Expands with Shootings and Killings Abroad

Despite gangster Lawrence Bishnoi being lodged in Sabarmati Jail, Gujarat, his criminal network has intensified its violent operations in Canada, triggering major concerns for law enforcement agencies in both India and Canada.

The Bishnoi gang, which Ottawa recently designated as a terrorist organisation, has claimed responsibility for multiple shootings and a murder of an Indian-origin businessman, marking a new phase of cross-border criminal expansion.

Within weeks of the India-Canada cooperation agreement to combat transnational crime, the gang has carried out attacks across British Columbia and Ontario, openly boasting about them on social media.

Shootings and Murder Linked to Bishnoi Gang in Canada

In one of the most chilling attacks, Darshan Singh Sahsi, an Indian-origin businessman, was shot dead outside his home in Abbotsford, British Columbia.
Gang member Goldy Dhillon, who identifies as part of the Bishnoi network, took credit for the murder online, claiming Sahsi had refused to pay extortion money demanded by the group.

Earlier, the gang also opened fire outside the home of Punjabi singer Chani Nattan in Surrey, uploading the video of the assault to send a clear message of dominance.

Security experts say the gang’s actions indicate an intent to control the extortion racket and influence local Punjabi networks abroad.

International Coordination Fails to Deter Bishnoi Gang

India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that NSA Ajit Doval met Canada’s National Security Adviser Nathalie Drouin in September 2025 to strengthen counter-terrorism and crime-fighting cooperation.
However, the gang appears undeterred.

“Both sides agreed to enhance intelligence sharing and reinforce existing mechanisms,” said MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, but added that coordination alone might not be enough to counter such sprawling criminal networks.

The Bishnoi gang, rooted in North India, has evolved into a transnational syndicate leveraging diaspora connections and digital communication for extortion, intimidation, and money laundering.

Three Shootings Target Kapil Sharma’s Café in Surrey

One of the most high-profile targets has been Kapil Sharma’s Kap’s Café in Surrey, attacked three times since July 2025.

The most recent assault on October 16 left the café riddled with bullet holes. Surveillance videos showed masked men firing multiple rounds before fleeing the scene.

Earlier attacks occurred on July 10 and August 7, leading Mumbai Police and Canadian authorities to review security around Kapil Sharma and his properties.

Attacks on Businesses and Restaurants Across Canada

On the same day as the third café shooting, the gang fired at Zamindar Bar & Grill in Brampton, Ontario.
Goldy Dhillon again claimed responsibility, issuing a warning on social media in Punjabi, saying the attack was a “trailer” for anyone who “failed to show respect.”

Earlier in October, the gang also targeted multiple properties of a Surrey restaurant owner accused of employee exploitation. Gunmen attacked at least three to four locations in Surrey, South Surrey, and Maple Ridge, releasing videos to amplify fear.

The gang also shot at the home and commercial complex of rival Navi Tesi, accusing him of falsely collecting money in Bishnoi’s name.

Why Bishnoi Gang Is Expanding Abroad

Experts believe the recent designation as a terrorist organisation by the Canadian government has pushed the gang to assert dominance and project power within the Indian diaspora.

According to intelligence reports, the gang aims to:

  • Reassert control over extortion and narcotics networks.

  • Intimidate rivals operating within Canada’s South Asian community.

  • Demonstrate continued loyalty to Lawrence Bishnoi, despite his imprisonment.

These acts also serve as symbolic defiance against Indian authorities and their growing international cooperation with Ottawa.

A Cross-Border Challenge for India and Canada

The Bishnoi gang’s operations underline a new transnational dimension of organised crime—where digital communication, diaspora networks, and international safe havens enable Indian-origin gangs to thrive abroad.

While both governments have pledged coordinated action, experts warn that unless financial channels and local enablers are disrupted, the gang’s reach will continue expanding across continents.
