UK Train Stabbing Attack: 9 Critically Injured as Counter-Terror Police Launch Investigation

A shocking mass stabbing aboard a London-bound train in the United Kingdom has left at least nine passengers critically injured, prompting an immediate counter-terrorism investigation.

According to British Transport Police (BTP), a total of ten people were rushed to nearby hospitals following the attack, with nine sustaining life-threatening injuries. The incident occurred on a London North Eastern Railway (LNER) service intercepted at Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, after authorities received emergency reports of multiple stabbings on board.

Police Declare ‘Major Incident’

The British Transport Police swiftly declared the situation a major incident, confirming that armed units responded to the scene and arrested two men in connection with the attack. “Counter Terrorism Policing is assisting our investigation to determine the motive and any potential links to terrorism,” a BTP spokesperson said.

Emergency services, including paramedics, local law enforcement, and anti-terror officers, were deployed to the scene within minutes. The entire area surrounding Huntingdon Station was cordoned off, and services on the LNER line were suspended temporarily, causing major disruptions across the rail network.

PM Keir Starmer Condemns the Attack

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the stabbing spree an “appalling incident”, expressing solidarity with the victims and their families. He also assured that “law enforcement agencies are doing everything possible to ensure the safety of passengers and uncover the full details behind this horrific event.”

Interior Minister Yvette Cooper confirmed that Counter Terrorism Policing is supporting the investigation but noted that it is still too early to determine the attackers’ motives or affiliations.

Nation on Alert

The attack has reignited public concern over train and transport security across Britain. Authorities have advised commuters to remain vigilant, with enhanced police presence at major transport hubs in London, Cambridge, and surrounding regions.

While early reports indicate that the assailants were subdued without gunfire, investigators are exploring whether the stabbing was premeditated or part of a broader terror-linked plot.

Rail Services Disrupted

The LNER operator confirmed widespread service disruptions following the incident. Passengers were evacuated safely, and emergency medical teams provided critical care to the injured before their transfer to hospitals.

This mass stabbing marks one of the most severe attacks on UK railways in recent years and comes amid heightened security measures nationwide.

As investigations continue, British Transport Police have urged the public to avoid speculation and share any relevant footage or information that could aid their inquiry.
