Amit Passi T20 Debut Century: Baroda Batter Equals World Record in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025

Baroda wicketkeeper-batter Amit Passi announced himself in sensational fashion on his T20 debut, smashing a 55-ball 114 against Services in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy at the Gymkhana Ground in Hyderabad on December 8. His blistering century, studded with 10 fours and nine sixes, matched the world record for the highest individual score on T20 debut in men’s cricket.

Passi equalled the mark first set by Pakistan’s Bilal Asif, who scored 114 off 48 balls for Sialkot Stallions in 2015. The 26-year-old also became only the third Indian to score a hundred on T20 debut, joining Shivam Bhambri (106 in 2019) and Akshath Reddy (105 in 2010)—all three centuries recorded in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Passi reached his half-century in 24 balls before accelerating further, bringing up his maiden T20 ton with a six off his 44th ball. Despite wickets falling around him, he kept Baroda’s innings on track, stitching partnerships of 60 runs with Shivalik Sharma and 75 runs in just 32 balls with captain Vishnu Solanki.

His explosive knock powered Baroda to 220/5 in 20 overs after he was drafted into the XI to replace Jitesh Sharma, who, along with Hardik Pandya, is on national duty for the upcoming five-match T20I series against South Africa beginning December 9.

Elsewhere in the tournament, Rinku Singh, who was left out of India’s squad for the South Africa series, continued his lean run. The Uttar Pradesh batter managed 19 off 25 balls against Bihar, contributing to UP’s modest 144-run total. Bihar chased down the target with ease, thanks to Piyush Kumar Singh’s 57, securing victory in 19.2 overs.

Rinku’s poor form persists as he has scored only 173 runs in seven matches this season, with a single fifty and an average of 24.57.
