Bihar Smash World Record 574 as 14-Year-Old Vaibhav Suryavanshi Hits Historic 190

Indian domestic cricket witnessed a once-in-a-generation batting explosion as Bihar smashed an unprecedented 574 for 6, rewriting the record books in the Vijay Hazare Trophy against Arunachal Pradesh in a Plate League fixture at Ranchi.

The staggering total is now the highest team score ever recorded in List A cricket, surpassing Tamil Nadu’s previous world record of 506 for 2, set in the same tournament in 2022.

At the heart of the historic innings was Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the 14-year-old prodigy who produced a knock that stunned the cricketing world. Suryavanshi hammered 190 off just 84 balls, striking 16 fours and 15 sixes, combining fearlessness with astonishing control.

Suryavanshi reached his century in 36 balls, becoming the youngest men’s List A centurion in history at 14 years and 272 days. He then raced to 150 in just 59 balls, setting a new world record for the fastest 150 in List A cricket, eclipsing the previous mark held by AB de Villiers. His innings also featured the most sixes by an Indian in a List A match.

For a brief period, he even threatened the record for the fastest List A double hundred, underlining the sheer scale of the assault. Remarkably, this was only his seventh List A appearance.

Bihar’s domination was reinforced by two more centuries. Captain Sakibul Gani blazed his way to 128, reaching his hundred in just 32 balls—the fastest List A century by an Indian. Ayush Loharuka added a fluent 116, ensuring Arunachal Pradesh were under relentless pressure throughout the innings.

The three centuries powered Bihar past every known benchmark in 50-over cricket, producing a scoreline that may stand unmatched for years.

Suryavanshi’s innings carries added significance given his recent rise. Earlier this month, he struck 171 in the Under-19 Asia Cup, narrowly missing Ambati Rayudu’s long-standing youth record. After a quiet outing in the final against Pakistan, the teenager responded in senior cricket with a performance that announced his arrival on the global stage.

With the Under-19 World Cup scheduled in Zimbabwe and Namibia early next year, Bihar’s record-breaking day in Ranchi may well be remembered as the moment Indian cricket found its next phenomenon.
