Mumbai Indians Rebrand Oval Invincibles as MI London After Partnership with Surrey CCC

Reliance Industries, owners of the Mumbai Indians, have officially expanded their global cricket footprint by partnering with Surrey County Cricket Club, resulting in the rebranding of the Oval Invincibles franchise in The Hundred to MI London. The agreement, finalised after months of negotiations, marks a significant strategic shift in UK cricket ownership and underscores the growing influence of Indian investors in international leagues.

Oval Invincibles, the most successful franchise in The Hundred’s history, have dominated the competition with five consecutive titles—women’s champions in 2021 and 2022, and men’s champions from 2023 to 2025. The rebrand to MI London is expected to bring stronger commercial strategies, global branding initiatives, and deeper international engagement for the franchise.

A joint statement confirmed that Reliance Strategic Business Ventures Limited will hold a 49% stake, while Surrey CCC retains 51%, transferring operational ownership from the ECB starting with the 2026 season. Both the men's and women’s teams will now compete under the MI London banner.

Akash Ambani expressed enthusiasm over the partnership, saying the Invincibles' winning culture aligns seamlessly with the Mumbai Indians’ ethos of excellence, passion, and teamwork.
Surrey Chair Oli Slipper echoed the sentiment, stating that Reliance brings deep expertise in both cricket and global sports business, adding that the collaboration aims to sustain the success of the franchise.

With this acquisition, Mumbai Indians add the UK to their growing list of franchise destinations, which already includes India, the USA, South Africa, and the UAE. The move reflects a larger trend of IPL teams expanding their portfolios through overseas cricket investments.

Other IPL owners have also established stakes in The Hundred—Lucknow Super Giants own 70% of the Manchester franchise, GMR Group (Delhi Capitals co-owners) hold 49% of Hampshire, and Sunrisers Hyderabad own Yorkshire outright. These investments highlight the rapid commercialisation and cross-market integration between IPL stakeholders and English domestic cricket.
