Barcelona kept their LaLiga title hopes alive with a thrilling 4–2 away victory over Celta Vigo, led by a stunning hat-trick from Robert Lewandowski. The Polish striker’s masterclass ensured that Barcelona moved within three points of league leaders Real Madrid, heading into the international break with renewed momentum.
The game saw Lewandowski return to his ruthless best after injury, netting goals in the 10th, 37th, and 73rd minutes. Each strike reflected his signature precision — the first from open play, the second off a clever link-up, and the third from a perfectly executed corner routine.
Celta Vigo’s Sergio Carreira momentarily restored parity in the 11th minute, but Barcelona’s attacking structure, spearheaded by Lamine Yamal and Marcus Rashford, proved too potent for the home side.
Rashford, adapting seamlessly into Hansi Flick’s system, assisted twice — showcasing creative vision and precise delivery from set pieces. His chemistry with Lewandowski gave Barcelona the edge throughout the match.
Despite two well-timed goals — the second from Borja Iglesias just before halftime — Celta Vigo struggled to sustain defensive shape. Their high press left spaces that Barcelona exploited through quick transitions.
Celta remain 13th in the league standings with 13 points, five short of the European qualification zone.
Barcelona demonstrated composure and tempo control under Flick’s direction, pressing high and maintaining intensity in midfield through Frenkie de Jong and Pedri. Their set-piece efficiency stood out, with three of the four goals stemming from dead-ball scenarios.
However, the match ended on a bittersweet note for Barca as Frenkie de Jong received a second yellow card in stoppage time, leading to his dismissal. While the red card did not affect the outcome, it could sideline the Dutch midfielder for the next crucial fixture after the international break.
Head coach Hansi Flick lauded Lewandowski’s recovery and impact post-injury, noting that the striker’s sharpness and morale have significantly improved.
“After his injury, I’ve seen a different Lewandowski — positive, hungry, and motivated,” Flick told reporters. “It’s great that he’s scored three goals to boost his confidence. He’s always been vital for us.”
On De Jong’s dismissal, Flick acknowledged the midfielder’s importance, saying:
“Frenkie controlled the match brilliantly. It’s unfortunate he’ll miss the next game, but we’ll adapt. The key is that we head into the break with confidence and a win.”
With the victory, Barcelona climb to 28 points, trailing Real Madrid by just three, and staying two points clear of Villarreal in third. As Flick’s men prepare for a challenging stretch of fixtures post-break, their attacking resurgence underlines a growing belief in their title ambitions.
Barcelona’s 4–2 triumph wasn’t just about three points — it was a statement of resurgence. With Lewandowski back in full stride, Rashford delivering key assists, and Flick’s system beginning to click, the Catalan giants are firmly back in the race for LaLiga glory.
