Imran Khan’s Sister Calls Asim Munir a Radical Islamist, Claims Ex-PM Wanted Friendship With India

Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan has launched a fierce attack on Pakistan’s army chief, Asim Munir, calling him a “radicalised Islamist” who desires a full-scale war with India. In an interview with Sky News journalist Yalda Hakim, she contrasted Munir’s worldview with that of her brother, claiming Imran Khan attempted to build cordial ties with India and even the BJP.

The comments come just a day after another sister, Uzma Khan, was finally allowed to meet the jailed former prime minister inside Adiala Jail, following weeks of rumours surrounding Imran’s health and safety.

Aleema alleged that Munir’s “Islamic conservatism” was the driving force behind his hostility toward India. “Asim Munir is a radicalised Islamist… This is why he yearns for a war with India. His radicalisation compels him to target anyone who doesn’t align with his ideology,” she said.

She claimed Imran Khan, in contrast, is a “pure liberal” who always sought better relations with India, including with the BJP. “Whenever Imran is in power, you will see him trying to be friends with India. Whenever radicals like Asim Munir are in charge, you will see war.”

Aleema also urged Western countries to step up pressure on Pakistan to secure Imran’s release, calling him an “asset” who was being politically persecuted.

Imran Khan’s direct attack on Asim Munir

Imran Khan himself issued a strongly worded message from prison on Tuesday, calling Munir the “most tyrannical dictator in Pakistan’s history,” and alleging that the army chief is mentally unstable.

“All that is left is for them to murder me,” Imran said, accusing Munir of orchestrating his imprisonment and subjecting both him and his wife to severe mental torture.

He claimed he was being kept in conditions similar to a death-row inmate and held in a “cage worse than animals.” Imran also blamed Munir for enabling terrorism, saying the country had been “sacrificed” for the army chief’s personal interest.

Munir, who is set to become Pakistan’s first Chief of Defence Forces, has escalated anti-India rhetoric in recent months. His remarks on Kashmir being Pakistan’s “jugular vein” were widely linked to the April Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people. India responded with Operation Sindoor, eliminating terror infrastructure deep inside Pakistan.

Amid the escalating confrontations and Pakistan's deep political divide, Imran Khan’s family continues to allege that the former PM is being silenced by a militarised establishment.
