IPL 2026 at Chinnaswamy Uncertain as Govt Seeks Mandatory Stadium Safety Clearance

Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium faces uncertainty ahead of the IPL 2026 season, with the Karnataka government ordering a compulsory structural safety audit before granting permission to host matches. The directive follows heightened scrutiny of public venues after the stampede incident earlier this year.

The Public Works Department (PWD) has formally notified the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), asking it to submit a comprehensive structural safety report. The assessment must be conducted by experts accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL).

The report will evaluate all critical components of the stadium—including spectator stands, galleries, load-bearing structures, and evacuation pathways—to ensure the venue can safely accommodate IPL-level crowds.

M Chinnaswamy Stadium, built across 17 acres of PWD-leased land in central Bengaluru, will only receive approval for IPL 2026 once independent experts certify its structural integrity.

Until then, the venue’s availability for next year’s IPL season remains in question, raising concerns for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) franchise and fans eagerly awaiting home matches.

More updates awaited.
