LPG Tanker Nanda Devi Reaches Gujarat After Hormuz Transit, Boosts Supply

India’s energy supply situation received a significant boost as the LPG tanker Nanda Devi arrived at Gujarat’s Vadinar Port after successfully crossing the conflict-hit Strait of Hormuz. The vessel carried over 47,000 metric tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), marking a crucial development amid ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

The arrival of Nanda Devi comes just a day after another tanker, Shivalik, reached India with a similarly large LPG shipment.

Second Successful Transit Through Hormuz

The Nanda Devi is the second Indian-linked LPG tanker to safely pass through the Strait of Hormuz in recent days, despite rising tensions and disruptions in the region.

Earlier Arrival of Shivalik

A day earlier, the LPG tanker Shivalik docked at Gujarat’s Mundra Port carrying over 46,000 metric tonnes of LPG.

Officials estimated that the cargo onboard Shivalik alone was equivalent to approximately 32.4 lakh domestic LPG cylinders (14.2 kg each), commonly used by households across India.

The shipment was significant enough to meet nearly one day of India’s total LPG import requirement, underlining its importance in stabilising supply.

Strengthening Domestic LPG Supply

With the arrival of both tankers, India has received a combined shipment of more than 93,000 metric tonnes of LPG within a short span.

This influx is expected to:
