The MP Board exam pattern 2026-27 has been revised for students in Classes 9 to 12, with the Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (MPBSE) changing the availability of internal choices in main and National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF) subjects.
According to a board notice dated October 15, 2026, internal choices will no longer be available in two-mark very short-answer questions in main subjects. Students will have to attempt the questions set by the board without an alternative.
However, internal choices will continue in three-mark short-answer and four-mark long-answer questions. The revised provisions will apply to examinations conducted from the 2026-27 academic session.
Internal Choices Introduced in NSQF Subjects
The board has also introduced internal choices in five-mark long-answer and seven-mark essay-type questions in NSQF subjects.
The changes establish separate provisions for main and NSQF subjects, specifying where internal choices will be discontinued, retained or introduced.
For main subjects, students will not have alternative questions in the two-mark section, but options will remain available in the three-mark and four-mark sections.
For NSQF subjects, the introduction of choices in five-mark and seven-mark questions will give students alternatives when attempting these higher-mark questions.
When Were the Changes Approved?
According to the notice, the decisions follow a resolution passed at the Board of Secondary Education's Curriculum Committee meeting on August 20, 2025. The changes were subsequently approved at the Executive Committee meeting on August 28, 2025.
The revised pattern outlines the board's approach to internal choices across different question types and subject categories for the upcoming academic session.
What Should Students Do Now?
Students preparing for MP Board examinations in Classes 9 to 12 should familiarise themselves with the revised question paper pattern while planning their preparation for 2026-27.
Since two-mark questions in main subjects will no longer include internal choices, students should prepare the relevant syllabus comprehensively rather than relying on the availability of alternatives.
Students should also check the board's official notices and updated sample papers, where available, to understand the question structure applicable to their subjects.
