Italy’s top-ranked tennis star, Jannik Sinner delivered a sensational comeback performance to defeat Germany’s Alexander Zverev 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 in the Vienna Open 2025 final on Sunday. With this triumph, Sinner clinched his fourth ATP Tour title of the season and his second championship on Austrian soil.
The 24-year-old, currently World No. 2, has been in unstoppable form on indoor hardcourts, now stretching his winning streak to 21 matches in such conditions. The Vienna title also marks his 22nd ATP singles trophy and adds to his 51 career victories over top-10 players, underlining his dominant presence in men’s tennis.
The match lasted an intense two hours and 28 minutes, with Sinner hammering 11 aces and firing 44 stunning winners to overpower the German third seed, who initially controlled the match with powerful serves and deep baseline shots.
Sinner admitted that the opening set tested him mentally, saying:
“It feels amazing. I had a rough start and couldn’t capitalize on the early chances. But I tried to stay focused, play my best when it mattered, and push through the tough moments. Winning another title here feels very special.”
With this victory, Sinner equaled his career head-to-head record against Zverev to 4-4, adding another chapter to one of tennis’s most thrilling modern rivalries.
Zverev, gracious in defeat, praised the Italian:
“Congrats to Jannik. Right now, you’re playing the best tennis in the world. Four Grand Slam finals, two Grand Slam wins—an amazing year. This week, you were simply the best player in Vienna.”
The match turned dramatically in the final set when Sinner appeared to suffer from a slight hamstring cramp but refused to slow down. With the set level at 5-5, he secured a crucial break before confidently serving out the championship game.
Sinner highlighted resilience as his biggest weapon:
“The key was not giving up. Saving energy in my service games and making the right decisions at the right moment helped me finish strong.”
With another major title added to his growing legacy, Jannik Sinner continues to strengthen his claim as the top contender in global tennis heading toward the season finale.
