Piyush Goyal: India Won’t Rush Trade Deals with US or EU
Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal sent a firm message on India’s approach to international trade negotiations during the Berlin Global Dialogue. Speaking on October 24, 2025, he stated that India will not be pressured into signing deals hastily.
“We do not do deals in a hurry, and we do not go ahead and sign any deals with deadlines or with a gun to our head,” Mr. Goyal said, underlining India’s insistence on careful and considered trade agreements.
The minister emphasized that trade deals are not just about tariffs or market access. For India, they are long-term partnerships grounded in trust and mutual respect between nations. This approach ensures that agreements support Indian businesses, strengthen the economy, and provide sustainable benefits over time.
India is currently in discussions with both the United States and the European Union. The country is advocating for fair and equitable agreements, ensuring that international partnerships respect India’s economic priorities and strategic interests.
