Arshad Warsi Says He Was Tricked Into Supporting Role in Priyadarshan’s Hulchul

Actor Arshad Warsi has opened up about his experience working on the 2004 romantic comedy Hulchul, describing it as a disappointing phase in his career. The actor revealed that he agreed to the film believing he would be playing a substantial role, only to later realise that it was a supporting part.

Speaking in a recent interview, Arshad said he was initially enthusiastic about the project as it was being directed by Priyadarshan. He shared that late writer Neeraj Vora had assured him that his character would be comparable to the role played by Akshay Kumar in Hera Pheri, which had received widespread acclaim. Trusting this assurance, Arshad agreed to come on board.

However, upon reaching the set, the actor said he was taken aback by the reality of his role. He claimed that even the director appeared unaware of the expectations that had been set for him, suggesting that there had been a serious communication gap. Arshad clarified that he did not blame the director, noting that the misunderstanding stemmed from what had been conveyed to him before signing the film.

Recalling moments from the shoot, Arshad described the experience as chaotic and confusing. He said he often found himself unsure about his character’s presentation, even resorting to wearing his own clothes for several scenes due to costume-related issues. Despite his disappointment, the actor chose to honour his commitment and completed the film.

Hulchul starred Akshaye Khanna and Kareena Kapoor in lead roles and went on to gain popularity with audiences, even as Arshad’s personal experience with the project remained a sour one.

On the professional front, Arshad Warsi was last seen in Jolly LLB 3, a legal comedy-drama that featured an ensemble cast. He is next set to appear in Welcome to the Jungle, where he reunites with Akshay Kumar.
