Is Vijay’s Jana Nayagan a Remake of Bhagavanth Kesari? Director Reacts

Speculation surrounding Thalapathy Vijay’s upcoming film Jana Nayagan being a remake of Bhagavanth Kesari has been doing the rounds since the project was announced. Addressing the rumours, Bhagavanth Kesari director Anil Ravipudi has offered a measured response, neither confirming nor outright dismissing the claims.

Speaking at a public event, Anil Ravipudi said clarity on the matter would only come once Jana Nayagan releases. He added that until then, the project should simply be viewed as a Thalapathy Vijay film, emphasising respect for the actor and avoiding any premature conclusions about creative involvement or similarities.

Earlier, Jana Nayagan director H Vinoth also addressed the remake speculation during the film’s audio launch in Malaysia. Vinoth firmly stated that the film is not a remake, describing it instead as a complete commercial entertainer designed around Vijay’s screen image. His remarks reinforced the narrative that the project is driven by Vijay’s persona rather than adapted from an existing film.

The remake rumours reportedly stemmed from a past public interaction in which actor VTV Ganesh suggested that Vijay had watched Bhagavanth Kesari multiple times and held discussions with Anil Ravipudi. The director later clarified that while conversations did take place, talks around Vijay’s final film were premature and complicated by scheduling and other practical considerations.

Backed by KVN Productions, Jana Nayagan features music by Anirudh Ravichander and stars Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, Prakash Raj, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priyamani and Narain. The film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on January 9, 2026, coinciding with the Pongal festival.

Meanwhile, Anil Ravipudi is also preparing for the release of Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu, starring Chiranjeevi and Nayanthara, which is slated to hit theatres during Sankranthi 2026.
