Assam Floods Worsen: Over 57,000 Affected, Army and Air Force on Standby for Rescue

The flood situation in Assam has deteriorated significantly, with more than 57,000 people affected across seven districts and one more flood-related death reported. Among these, Charaideo is the worst-hit district with nearly 24,000 affected residents, followed by Dhemaji with around 22,000 people and Dibrugarh with approximately 4,000 people.

Army and Air Force on Standby

As floodwaters continue to rise in Sivasagar, Charaideo, and Jorhat, the Assam government has sought assistance from the armed forces if the situation worsens.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the Army and Air Force have been asked to remain prepared for evacuation and rescue operations whenever required.

He also directed four state ministers—Ajanta Neog, Bimal Borah, Keshab Mahanta, and Susanta Borgohain—to immediately visit flood-hit areas and supervise relief work.

Currently:

• 440 displaced people are staying in relief camps.

The government has also distributed essential relief materials over the past 24 hours, including:

• 58.17 quintals of rice
• 10.89 quintals of dal
• 3.26 quintals of salt
• 326.88 litres of mustard oil

Floodwaters have submerged 298 villages across the state.

The ASDMA reported that nearly 3,875 hectares of agricultural land have been damaged, affecting thousands of farming families.

Meanwhile, the Burhidihing River was reported to be flowing above the danger mark at Chenimari in the Khowang area of Dibrugarh, increasing the risk of further flooding.

The floods have impacted more than 37,500 domestic animals and poultry, adding to the hardship faced by affected communities.
