Bumrah, Gill Among Players to Undergo Pre-Season Fitness Tests at BCCI Centre of Excellence

India’s Test captain Shubman Gill has reached the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru for mandatory fitness assessments ahead of the Asia Cup 2025. The Indian squad is set to assemble in Dubai from September 4, before opening their campaign on September 9 against hosts UAE.

Gill had skipped the Duleep Trophy quarterfinal due to a bout of flu but has now joined the pre-tournament preparations. Wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma is also at CoE, while senior pacer Jasprit Bumrah, Washington Sundar, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Mohammad Siraj, and Shardul Thakur will arrive shortly for the mandatory pre-season fitness tests.

Unlike previous tours, players will travel to Dubai in a staggered manner rather than assembling in Mumbai as a group.

Domestic Impact & Player Updates

  • Shardul Thakur will lead West Zone in the Duleep Trophy semifinals.

  • Jaiswal and Sundar, both on the Asia Cup standby list, are also expected to feature in domestic games before heading to Dubai.

  • Other Asia Cup-bound players like Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, and Kuldeep Yadav are already playing in the Duleep Trophy quarters.

  • South Zone will name a new captain for the semifinals as Tilak Varma joins India’s Asia Cup squad.

Injury Concern – Mukesh Kumar

East Zone pacer Mukesh Kumar sustained a possible thigh/groin niggle, forcing him out of bowling duties in the second innings of the ongoing Duleep Trophy quarterfinal. He had previously left the field for nine overs during the first innings but did return to bat later.
