FSSAI Cracks Down on Wai Wai Maker After Noodles Found Reused From Factory Floor for Bhujia

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has taken action against CG Foods India after inspectors allegedly found broken noodles collected from the factory floor being reprocessed into bhujia products.

The action followed an inspection at a CG Foods India manufacturing facility in Rajasthan. The company is part of CG Corp Global, the conglomerate associated with Nepalese businessman Binod Chaudhary, known for building the Wai Wai instant noodle brand.

According to the findings cited by food safety authorities, broken noodles collected from the factory floor were allegedly being reprocessed into Wai Wai-branded bhujia without heat treatment.

FSSAI ordered the company to stop manufacturing the affected products following the inspection. The investigation focused on two Wai Wai-branded bhujia products manufactured at the facility.

Authorities also seized nearly 32,000 kg of stock during the action. Inspectors reportedly found 1,925 boxes containing expired finished products at the manufacturing facility.

Food safety authorities said legal proceedings had been initiated against the food business operator. Samples were also collected for further testing as part of the investigation.

The regulatory action comes amid increased food safety inspections and enforcement activity across India, with authorities conducting raids at food manufacturing facilities, restaurants, warehouses and retail outlets over hygiene and product quality concerns.

Recent inspections in Maharashtra also uncovered allegations involving expired and nearly expired consumer products with altered expiry dates and nutrition labels at a warehouse in Navi Mumbai.

Officials reportedly found thousands of cartons containing products associated with several major food and beverage companies during that operation. The case involved allegations that expiry dates were removed from packaging and replaced with new labels.

Food safety authorities have also taken action against several restaurant outlets in recent months following inspections that allegedly found hygiene and food safety violations.

The latest action against the CG Foods India facility highlights the continuing regulatory crackdown on food hygiene, manufacturing practices and the handling of expired or improperly processed products.

The investigation and legal proceedings related to the Rajasthan facility are expected to continue as authorities examine samples and review the alleged violations.
