Haryana Para-Bodybuilder Killed After Confronting Harassment at Wedding in Rohtak

An international para-weightlifting athlete, Rohit, was brutally beaten to death in Rohtak, Haryana, after he confronted a man for allegedly harassing women during a wedding procession on Saturday.

The incident took place in Bhiwani village, where Rohit had arrived to attend a relative’s wedding along with his friend Jatin. According to eyewitnesses, a man named Rahul, reportedly drunk, began making derogatory and inappropriate remarks toward the women participating in the procession. When Rohit objected, the two had an initial confrontation, which other guests managed to defuse.

However, the situation escalated violently later. While Rohit was returning home, Rahul and a mob of nearly 18–20 men intercepted his car and attacked him with sticks and iron rods. Rohit’s brother-in-law Ravi Khasa and friend Jatin, who witnessed the assault, said the group assaulted him mercilessly.

Police were called immediately and rushed Rohit to a local hospital before he was shifted to PGIMS Rohtak, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

Local police have registered a case and launched an investigation. Officials said the altercation may have initially started over clicking selfies, but it later spiralled into a violent attack involving multiple assailants.

Rohit, apart from being a decorated para-athlete, also ran a gymkhana business in the region.

Authorities are currently searching for the accused individuals involved in the attack.
