Haryanvi Singer Ankit Baliyan Shot Dead Outside Gym in UP's Shamli

Popular Haryanvi singer and YouTuber Ankit Baliyan was shot dead outside a gym in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli after unidentified assailants opened fire on him, police said. The attackers allegedly fired around 20 rounds, leaving the 35-year-old singer with multiple bullet injuries, including a gunshot wound to the head.

The incident took place on Wednesday evening when Baliyan was leaving the gym at around 7 pm. Police said he had completed his workout and was approximately 20 to 25 metres away from the gym, near his car, when three to four attackers allegedly opened fire.

Baliyan died at the spot before the assailants fled. Police are investigating the case and are attempting to identify and trace those involved.

The murder later drew attention after the Gogi gang claimed responsibility for the killing. The claim was reportedly made through a social media post by an account allegedly associated with Bholu Shahpuria. The post alleged that Baliyan had been in contact with the gang's rivals and had created a song linked to an incident involving the group.

The motive behind the murder has not yet been officially established, and police are investigating multiple angles, including a possible old rivalry and a potential connection to the upcoming Panchayat elections.

Baliyan was originally from Bantikhera village in Shamli and had spent the past several years living in Rohtak and Sonipat while building his career in Haryanvi music and entertainment. He was also active as a YouTuber, producer and podcaster and regularly visited the gym in Shamli.

The singer was known for several Haryanvi songs, including 112 NE, Goli Ke Barood, Jaat Jatni, Agla Janam Jaat, Savidhan, Modi Barga Rutba, System and Riflein. His work often focused on regional identity, rural culture, local politics and themes associated with Haryanvi pop music.

One of his best-known songs, Bhari Court Mein Goli Maarenge Meri Jaan, gained particular attention following his death because of its references to gun violence.

The killing triggered protests by Baliyan's family members and local residents. Protesters reportedly placed his body on the Delhi-Muzaffarnagar Road and blocked traffic, demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible.

The family and protesters said they wanted the accused to be arrested before the last rites were performed. Police continue to investigate the murder and examine the gang's claim of responsibility.
