Gen Alpha Students Hold Tiranga Yatra in UP, Demand Road to School

 In a unique protest ahead of Independence Day, Gen Alpha students and villagers from Chandu Pur gram panchayat in Uttar Pradesh's Hamirpur district organised a 'Tiranga Yatra', demanding the construction of a paved road connecting their village to the local school.

Carrying the national flag, the protesters walked around 5 kilometres before reaching the District Collectorate, where they staged a sit-in and submitted a memorandum to the district administration.

Students Say Muddy Road Makes School Journey Difficult

The students and villagers said the road leading to the school remains unpaved and becomes almost impassable during the monsoon, forcing children to walk through mud and waterlogged stretches every day.

They alleged that despite decades since Independence, the village still lacks a proper road and urged the administration to begin construction immediately.

After reaching the Collectorate, the protesters gathered outside the District Magistrate's office, raising slogans and demanding urgent action. Police personnel were deployed to maintain law and order while the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) engaged with the protesters.

The demonstrators maintained that they would continue their protest until work on the road officially begins.

Administration Assures Road Project Will Move Ahead

Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Rakesh Kumar said the administration received the villagers' memorandum seeking a paved road along the existing uneven route.

According to the ADM, the project has already secured the required No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Forest Department.

He said the proposed road, estimated to cost around ₹1 crore, has been forwarded to the state government for approval. Once sanctioned, the administration will invite tenders and begin construction.

"The proposal has already been sent to the government. As soon as approval is received, the tender process will be initiated and work will commence," Kumar said.

Officials Say Project Has Been Pending for Years

The district administration acknowledged that the road project has remained pending for several years. Officials said the lack of a paved road creates serious mobility issues, especially during the rainy season when the route becomes waterlogged.

The administration also stated that villagers had previously been informed about the status of the project during earlier discussions.

Administration Alleges Children Were Used in Protest

While assuring that the project would move forward after government approval, the ADM alleged that certain "anti-social elements" were attempting to escalate the issue by placing schoolchildren at the forefront of the protest.

He pointed to the presence of family members accompanying the students during the demonstration.

However, the protesters insisted their demand was genuine and reiterated that they would continue their sit-in until visible progress is made on the road project.
