An Indian national was killed and two others injured in an attack on Saudi Arabia’s Dammam airport on Wednesday night, October 21, according to the Indian Embassy in Riyadh. The incident comes amid a series of drone and missile attacks targeting Saudi airports, energy facilities and other critical infrastructure.
The Indian Embassy said Saudi authorities had informed it about the casualties. One Indian national was among two people killed in the attack, while two other Indian nationals sustained injuries.
The embassy said it was gathering further information and contacting the affected families. It also expressed condolences to the deceased person's family and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
Saudi authorities have not publicly identified those responsible for the Dammam airport attack. Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen have conducted a prolonged campaign against Saudi Arabia, but responsibility for this particular incident has not been confirmed.
Indian National Also Injured in Shaybah Oilfield Attack
The Dammam incident followed a drone attack targeting Saudi Aramco’s Shaybah oilfield on Wednesday, in which an Indian national was injured.
Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Energy said air defences intercepted the drone. However, falling debris reportedly killed two residents, identified as Filipino and Nepali nationals, while an Indian and a Pakistani national were injured.
The incident also caused a fire in a contractor’s vehicle outside the facility. Saudi authorities said oilfield operations were not affected.
Shaybah is a major oilfield operated by state-owned Saudi Aramco in the Rub’ al-Khali desert in southeastern Saudi Arabia, near the United Arab Emirates border. It is an important part of the kingdom’s oil production infrastructure.
India Advises Nationals to Remain Alert
The latest incidents follow an earlier attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, in which an Indian national was killed and several others were injured, according to the report.
India has condemned attacks on Saudi Arabia, particularly those targeting civilian facilities and infrastructure, and called for an immediate end to hostilities.
The Indian Embassy has advised Indian nationals in Saudi Arabia to remain alert, follow instructions from local authorities and take shelter indoors during aerial attacks. It has also cautioned them against filming or sharing images and videos of drone or missile interceptions and impact sites, warning of possible legal consequences under Saudi law.
Saudi Arabia is home to approximately 2.74 million Indian nationals working across various sectors. The latest attacks have renewed concerns about the safety of Indian expatriates amid growing regional tensions.
