Saudi Arabia Issues Aerial Threat Alerts as Iran Executes Alleged Mossad Spy

Saudi Arabia issued emergency warnings across several parts of the kingdom late Friday and early Saturday after authorities reported a “hostile aerial threat”. Alerts were issued in Riyadh and other areas, with explosions heard in the Saudi capital. The warnings were later lifted, and no casualties or damage were reported. Saudi authorities did not immediately identify the source of the threat or explain the explosions, although the alerts come amid intensified attacks by Iran-aligned Houthi forces in Yemen.

The UN Security Council has condemned the Houthis’ continued missile and other attacks targeting Saudi Arabia and commercial shipping, warning that the escalation could threaten maritime security, international trade and efforts to achieve peace in Yemen. The council also urged countries to enforce the UN arms embargo and prevent the Houthis from obtaining weapons, military training and financing.

Meanwhile, Iranian state television reported that Hossein Pedram was executed after being convicted of spying for Israel’s Mossad. Iranian authorities alleged that he passed classified information about sensitive military facilities in Isfahan province to Israel. The report said he was arrested after those sites were targeted during a 12-day US-Israel air campaign against Iran last year.
