The Bihar government has approved changes to its social media policy that could allow eligible content creators to earn up to Rs 1 lakh for producing videos and other digital content related to government schemes, programmes, development initiatives and achievements.
Under the revised policy, empanelled social media creators may receive up to Rs 10,000 for content that records one lakh verified views. At the same rate, content reaching 10 lakh views could earn up to Rs 1 lakh.
However, the payment will be capped at Rs 1 lakh under this provision, even if a video or other eligible content receives more than 10 lakh views.
The revised policy does not mean that every viral video will automatically qualify for payment. Creators will have to meet eligibility requirements prescribed by the Bihar government, including conditions related to the platform, quality of content and official verification of views.
The final payment amount will be determined based on compliance with the government's prescribed rules and verification process.
Individual social media creators and registered companies will have to be empanelled through the Information and Public Relations Department to become eligible under the policy. Content created without the required empanelment or departmental approval will not qualify for payment.
Applicants will also need to complete the registration process and fulfil other formalities specified under Bihar's social media and online media policy.
The Bihar government's existing digital platform already provides a mechanism for the empanelment of individual creators and registered companies through the Information and Public Relations Department.
The policy is aimed at expanding awareness of Bihar government schemes, programmes and development initiatives through social media and other digital platforms by partnering with eligible and empanelled content creators.
