NEET-PG 2026 Re-Exam for 2,445 Candidates Challenged in Supreme Court

A plea challenging the decision to conduct a NEET-PG 2026 re-examination for 2,445 candidates affected by technical disruptions has been mentioned before the Supreme Court.

The matter was raised before a bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana. The petitioner argued that conducting a separate re-examination for the affected candidates was inconsistent with an earlier order of the Supreme Court and sought an urgent hearing.

The Supreme Court, however, did not pass any order stopping or cancelling the proposed re-examination. Instead, the bench directed the petitioner to approach the designated bench dealing with NEET-related matters.

The bench noted that NEET cases are being handled by the designated bench led by Justice Narasimha and asked the advocate to raise the matter there.

The legal challenge therefore does not change the status of the proposed NEET-PG 2026 re-examination at present.

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences decided to conduct a re-test for 2,445 candidates who were affected by technical issues during the NEET-PG 2026 examination.

The NEET-PG 2026 examination was conducted on August 30, with 2,65,980 candidates appearing for the postgraduate medical entrance examination.

According to the official information, the examination was completed successfully for 2,63,535 candidates. However, technical disruptions affected 2,445 candidates, leading authorities to decide that a separate re-examination would be conducted for them.

The decision has now become the subject of legal scrutiny, with the petitioner questioning whether holding a separate examination for a limited group of candidates is in line with previous directions issued by the Supreme Court.

For now, the Supreme Court has not stayed the re-examination. The petitioner has been asked to approach the designated NEET bench, which may consider the matter and decide on further proceedings.

The affected candidates will therefore have to wait for additional directions from the Supreme Court and the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences regarding the re-examination process.

Until a further judicial order is issued, the decision to conduct the NEET-PG 2026 re-test for the 2,445 candidates affected by technical disruptions remains unchanged.
