GATE 2027 Registration Begins: Check Eligibility, Important Dates, Fees and How to Apply

The registration process for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 has begun, with IIT Madras serving as the organising institute for the national-level examination. Eligible candidates can submit their applications through the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS).

The regular registration window for GATE 2027 will remain open until September 27, 2026. Candidates who are unable to complete their applications by the regular deadline will have an opportunity to register with a late fee until October 5, 2026.

Applicants are advised to complete the registration process well before the deadline and ensure that all required personal, academic and supporting documents are correctly uploaded.

The application correction window is scheduled to remain open from October 14 to October 21, 2026. Test city allotment details are expected to be released on January 4, 2027.

The GATE 2027 examination is scheduled to be conducted on February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21, 2027. The results are expected to be announced on March 19, 2027.

The admit card download date has not yet been announced.

GATE 2027 is open to eligible undergraduate students and graduates from a wide range of disciplines, including Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts and Humanities.

There is no age limit for appearing in GATE, and candidates can take the examination any number of times, subject to meeting the eligibility requirements.

Indian applicants will be required to complete the registration process through a verified DigiLocker account. Candidates planning to apply are therefore advised to create or update their DigiLocker accounts before beginning the application.

The examination will be conducted as a Computer-Based Test across 30 test papers. Candidates can choose one paper or, where permitted, select up to two papers from the approved combinations.

IIT Madras has also introduced Robotics and Automation as a new test paper for GATE 2027. Changes have also been made to the syllabus of some existing examination papers.

The application fee for female candidates and applicants belonging to the SC, ST and PwD categories is Rs 1,000. Other candidates will have to pay Rs 2,000.

The application fee can be paid online through available digital payment options, including UPI, net banking and credit or debit cards.

To apply for GATE 2027, candidates must first register using a valid email address and mobile number. After registration, they will receive an Enrolment ID that can be used to log in to the GOAPS portal.

Candidates will then need to enter their personal and academic details, upload the required photograph, signature and supporting documents, select their preferred GATE test paper and pay the applicable application fee.

After completing and submitting the application, candidates should download and save a PDF copy of the completed form for future reference.

A valid GATE score can be used for admission to postgraduate and doctoral programmes at institutions supported by the Ministry of Education and other government agencies. Several public sector undertakings also consider GATE scores during their recruitment processes.
