Air India Colombo-Chennai Flight Grounded After Bird Strike

An Air India flight from Colombo to Chennai carrying 158 passengers was grounded after suffering a bird strike, officials confirmed. The incident was detected after the aircraft landed safely at Chennai airport, and all passengers disembarked without injury.

Following the bird strike, the aircraft underwent detailed engineering inspections. As a precaution, the airline cancelled the return journey to Colombo. To minimise disruption, an alternative aircraft was arranged, which later flew 137 passengers back to Colombo.

This incident follows a recent scare involving an Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner on a flight from Amritsar to Birmingham, when its Ram Air Turbine (RAT)—a backup emergency power source—deployed unexpectedly during landing. Investigations confirmed no discrepancies, and the aircraft was cleared for service.

The airline reiterated that passenger safety remains its top priority, and all necessary measures are taken to inspect and maintain aircraft following any incident.
