Asrani Death: Salman Khan, Hema Malini Pay Tribute to Bollywood Legend

Veteran actor and comedian Govardhan Asrani, widely celebrated for his comic timing and memorable roles in Indian cinema, passed away on Monday, October 20, 2025, at the age of 84. He died at Arogya Nidhi Hospital in Juhu, Mumbai, after a brief five-day hospitalization due to health complications. His demise has left the Bollywood fraternity and fans in deep mourning.

Legendary actress Hema Malini, who shared screen space with Asrani in multiple films, expressed her grief on social media. She wrote, “We have lost one more gem of an actor. Asrani ji, who delighted audiences with his superb comedy, is no more. His role as the jailor in Sholay was unforgettable. Heartfelt condolences to his family during this difficult time.”

Actor Salman Khan also paid tribute, posting a photo of Asrani on social media, stating, “Saddened to hear of Asrani Ji’s demise. A true legend of laughter. #RIP.”

Asrani’s cremation was conducted privately at the Santacruz crematorium in Mumbai on the evening of his death, attended by close family members. His passing marks the end of an era for a generation of fans who grew up enjoying his performances.

Throughout his career, Asrani appeared in hundreds of films, earning acclaim for his versatility and unique comic flair. Beyond the laughter, he was known for bringing warmth and humanity to his roles.
