Chhattisgarh Man Beaten to Death by Friends Over ‘Bidi’; 3 Arrested

A shocking incident in Abhanpur, Raipur district has left the local community in disbelief after a 23-year-old man was brutally killed by three of his friends over a bidi (local cigarette) dispute. The victim, Afsar Ali, was reportedly attacked after he refused to share a bidi during a casual outing, police confirmed on Sunday.

According to official sources, Afsar was with Amanullah, Saifullah, and Danish when an argument escalated. Witnesses stated that the group had been consuming intoxicants before the confrontation turned violent. The accused allegedly assaulted Afsar using sticks, punches, and kicks, leaving him critically injured before abandoning him in an isolated area.

Local residents discovered Afsar lying motionless the following morning and immediately informed authorities. Emergency responders rushed him to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. A post-mortem examination revealed multiple internal injuries, fractures, and severe head trauma, confirming the brutality of the assault.

Abhanpur Police swiftly arrested all three accused and have charged them under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code. A police spokesperson said, “It is horrifying that a young life was taken over something as trivial as a bidi. We are committed to ensuring strict action and fast-tracking this case.”

The victim’s family is demanding the harshest punishment. Afsar’s father told reporters, “They were his close friends. He trusted them. How could they kill him over such a small thing?” Local social activists have also expressed outrage, highlighting the incident as a disturbing example of rising aggression and substance abuse among youth.

Police continue to investigate the case, with efforts underway to file the charge sheet as soon as possible. The accused remain in custody, and authorities are monitoring the situation closely to prevent any further escalation.

This tragic incident has sparked a conversation about youth violence, peer pressure, and substance abuse in Chhattisgarh, urging parents and community leaders to take preventive measures.
