CISCE to Introduce Activity-Based Curriculum for Classes KG to 8 from 2027–28

The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) has announced a major overhaul of its curriculum for students from kindergarten to Class 8, effective from the 2027–28 academic year.

Moving away from rote learning, the new activity-based framework is designed to make learning more practical, engaging, and aligned with real-world applications.

CISCE Chairman Joseph Emmanuel, while addressing an interschool debating competition in Bengaluru, highlighted that the revised syllabus will promote holistic development while staying in step with global skill demands. “We are coming up with a new plan for kindergarten to Class 8. This will be introduced along with the National Education Policy and mapped with global skill sets and competition competencies,” Emmanuel said.

The upgraded framework will adopt an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approach, encouraging students to apply classroom knowledge to real-life situations. Teachers will be trained in activity-driven methods to make the classroom more interactive.

Aligned with NCERT standards, the curriculum will also be supported by a dedicated digital platform covering academics, extracurricular activities, and environmental studies.

In addition, CISCE is preparing to open a regional office in Bengaluru, where nearly 400 CISCE-affiliated schools are located. The Council is also expected to release the Class 10 and Class 12 board exam timetables shortly, following the CBSE’s lead.
