Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, India has strategically pursued global tournaments, aiming ultimately to host the Summer Olympics in 2036. High-profile sporting events have helped build world-class infrastructure and positioned India as a credible venue for multi-disciplinary competitions.

Building Toward the 2030 Commonwealth Games

Having previously hosted the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India has pledged to deliver a diverse and world-class centenary edition. The recommendation strengthens India’s Olympic aspirations and ensures continuity for the Commonwealth Games amid global uncertainties.

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has committed to improving doping control and governance standards to support India’s global sporting ambitions.

According to IOC member Nita Ambani, “India being recommended to host the Centenary Commonwealth Games in 2030 is a proud milestone in India's journey as a global sporting powerhouse. This moment marks another step forward towards our shared dream of bringing the Olympic Games to India.”

Looking Ahead

The recommendation comes at a pivotal time for the Commonwealth Games, which has faced hosting challenges, including Glasgow 2026 being scaled down after Victoria, Australia, withdrew due to rising costs. Hosting in India ensures the future of the Games while leveraging the country’s growing sports infrastructure.
