Gold Prices Dhanteras 2025

With Dhanteras around the corner, gold prices are soaring to historic highs, leaving buyers torn between tradition and caution. The yellow metal has been on a steady upward trend since August, showing no signs of slowing down as festive demand picks up.

Gold Prices Near Record Levels

Internationally, gold briefly crossed $4,227 an ounce on Thursday. In India, 24-carat gold per 10 grams is hovering around Rs 1.29 lakh, while 22-carat gold is at Rs 1,18,660. Those opting for 18-carat gold will pay Rs 97,090 for 10 grams, according to Goodreturns.

This marks one of the sharpest rallies in recent years, coinciding with the start of the festive season.

Factors Driving the Rally

Experts point to a mix of global economic and geopolitical factors.

  • US Federal Reserve Policy: Expectations of interest rate cuts in October or December are boosting gold’s appeal.

  • Dollar Weakness and Inflation: Concerns over currency fluctuations and inflation continue to support the metal.

  • Geopolitical Tensions: Ongoing US-China trade frictions, rare earth supply concerns, and the US government shutdown have heightened investor interest in gold as a safe haven.

Darshan Desai, CEO of Aspect Bullion and Refinery, explained:

“Gold prices remain elevated, driven by expectations of more US rate cuts and ongoing tensions between the US and China. Central bank buying and debt concerns are also providing strong support.”

Rahul Kalantri, VP Commodities at Mehta Equities Ltd, added that softer labour market data and Fed remarks have further enhanced gold’s attractiveness.

Should You Buy Gold This Dhanteras?

Traditionally, Dhanteras is considered an auspicious time to buy gold. However, this year’s sharp rally requires a more thoughtful approach.

  • For Personal Use: Buying small quantities of jewellery to mark the festival is reasonable.

  • For Investment: Experts suggest staggering purchases instead of investing a lump sum, to mitigate short-term volatility.

Despite the high prices, gold continues to be a hedge against inflation, currency weakness, and global uncertainties. As Desai notes,

“Gold is likely to remain a safe-haven asset in the near term.”

This Dhanteras, buyers must balance festive tradition with financial prudence, deciding between immediate purchase or spreading investment over time to navigate record-high prices effectively.
