Hina Khan on Cancer Taboos in Bollywood: Why She Refuses to Quit Work

Actor Hina Khan has courageously addressed the deep-rooted stigma surrounding cancer within the entertainment industry. After revealing her stage three breast cancer diagnosis last year, Khan emphasized the importance of continuing one’s professional journey despite battling illness — challenging the perception that a cancer diagnosis should end one’s career.

In her candid statement, she said, “A person battling cancer doesn’t need to stop working. This taboo that a cancer patient has to sit at home and do nothing, and that their life is over, is not true.” She further added that, while treatment days can be tough, one’s willpower, strength, and family support play a vital role in recovery and motivation.

Khan highlighted that mental health and positivity are just as important as medical treatment. “Your mental strength is the most important thing. If you think this disease is nothing, it becomes nothing. Staying happy and mentally strong is the real key to healing,” she shared.

In June last year, Hina Khan publicly revealed her diagnosis, assuring fans of her determination to overcome the challenge. She stated that her treatment had already begun and expressed gratitude to her supporters for their love, encouragement, and prayers. “With the grace of the Almighty, I believe I will overcome this challenge and become completely healthy,” she said at the time.

Even after her diagnosis, Khan has remained active in the entertainment industry, proving that a serious illness does not define one’s professional worth or potential. Having gained fame through ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’ and ‘Kasautii Zindagii Kay’, and later starring in the web series ‘Griha Laxmi’, she continues to inspire fans and peers alike with her resilience and optimism.

By sharing her story, Hina Khan hopes to break the silence around health struggles in showbiz and promote a more empathetic, inclusive approach to artists dealing with life-threatening conditions. Her journey serves as a reminder that strength, hope, and determination can triumph even in the toughest battles.
