Mehidy Hasan Criticizes Bangladesh Batting in Afghanistan ODI Loss

Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz voiced strong disappointment in his team’s batting performance following their loss against Afghanistan in the second ODI held in Abu Dhabi on October 11, 2025. The defeat leaves Bangladesh facing a 0-2 series deficit, heightening pressure ahead of the final match.

Chasing a modest total of 191 runs, Bangladesh’s top order failed to build key partnerships, allowing Afghanistan to dominate the game. Rashid Khan starred with the ball, claiming a five-wicket haul, while Ibrahim Zadran anchored Afghanistan’s innings with a gritty 95 off 140 balls.

At the post-match presentation, Mehidy Hasan Miraz was candid about his team’s shortcomings:

“We bowled really well. We could have chased this. Very bad batting. We needed to get partnerships in the top order. It would have been a different scenario. No batter took responsibility. We are disappointed. We have one match left. We have to come back strongly. The batters need to improve and take responsibility.”

Bangladesh’s batting collapse was highlighted early in the powerplay, where Azmatullah Omarzai took three crucial wickets, leaving the team under pressure. Saif Hassan and Towhid Hridoy got starts but could not capitalize, allowing Rashid Khan to dismantle the middle order.

With this series win, Afghanistan has already secured an unassailable 2-0 lead, aiming to complete a whitewash and reinforce their position as one of Asia’s strongest teams. Bangladesh, meanwhile, faces the task of regrouping and performing strongly in the final ODI to salvage pride.
