Mumbai Highway Residents Write to PM Seeking Action Amid Traffic Crisis

Residents of Vasai (East) have taken an extreme step to highlight the worsening traffic situation on the Mumbai–Ahmedabad National Highway, sending letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing desperation over daily congestion.

On Thursday morning, hundreds of locals gathered at the Sasoonghar post office to mail letters described as a “cry of despair”, demanding urgent government intervention. Over a hundred letters were posted on the first day of the campaign, reflecting residents’ growing frustration with unending traffic jams.

Traffic Nightmare on Daily Commute

The highway, passing through areas like Sasoonghar, Maljipada, Sasupada, Bobatpada, and Patharpada, has become a daily ordeal for thousands of commuters. Locals report worsening potholes, unregulated traffic, and poor road management.

The residents rely on this route to access essential services in Thane, Kashimira, Vasai, and Naigaon, including food, medical care, and education. Persistent congestion has significantly disrupted daily life.

Desperate Appeals for Government Action

Villagers say repeated appeals and protests have yielded no concrete results. “Officials ignore our complaints, no one inspects the roads, and all our protests go unheard. What are we supposed to do now? If the government doesn’t care about us, then allow us to die,” one resident said.

Sushant Patil, President of the Bhoomiputra Foundation, added, “Since 2014, we’ve been living with this traffic jam. From the Versova Bridge repairs to new road projects, traffic management is never handled properly. It’s the villagers who suffer every single day.”

Women residents voiced concerns over children’s safety and education. “Because of the traffic, we can’t send our children to school on time. Now we’re questioning whether we should even send them to school,” one woman stated.

Residents Demand Road Improvements

The letters urge the government to complete service roads, strengthen traffic regulation, and enforce better management along the highway to ensure commuter safety and restore normalcy to daily life.

The community hopes the appeal will prompt immediate action, preventing further accidents and alleviating the daily struggle caused by the traffic crisis.
