NCERT Free Class 12 Physics Courses on SWAYAM 2025: From Optics to Electrostatics

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has introduced a series of free online Physics courses for Class 12 students under the government’s SWAYAM initiative. Developed as Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), these programs aim to make high-quality science education accessible to learners across India, especially those in remote regions.

Bringing Quality Science Learning to All

These courses have been created by NCERT subject experts and are closely aligned with the official Class 12 Physics syllabus. Each module is designed to help students build conceptual clarity through interactive videos, animations, practical examples, and digital tools.

The initiative seeks to bridge the educational divide by providing free, structured, and flexible online learning opportunities that allow students to learn at their own pace.

Topics Covered in the NCERT Physics MOOCs

First Series:

The first batch of courses includes key topics such as:

  • Electrostatics

  • Current Electricity

  • Magnetic Effects of Current and Magnetism

  • Electromagnetic Induction and Alternating Current

  • Electromagnetic Waves

These modules explain fundamental principles like electric charge, fields, potential, circuit behaviour, and electromagnetic wave applications that underpin modern technologies.

Second Series:

The next series consists of 43 interactive modules spread across five advanced units:

  • Ray Optics and Wave Optics

  • Dual Nature of Radiation and Matter

  • Atoms and Nuclei

  • Semiconductors and Electronic Devices

  • Communication Systems

Together, they connect classical physics with modern advancements such as quantum mechanics, electronics, and communication technologies.

Interactive Learning with Multimedia Support

Each course integrates multiple learning tools to keep students engaged. Learners will have access to:

  • Video lectures and animations

  • Downloadable e-texts and reading materials

  • Practice assessments and assignments

  • Online discussion forums for peer interaction

All SWAYAM modules follow a four-pillar format — video lessons, e-texts, self-tests, and discussion boards — to encourage active and collaborative learning.

NCERT also serves as the national coordinator for developing MOOCs for Classes 9 to 12 under the SWAYAM program.

Free Enrolment and Certification

The courses are completely free to enrol in. Students can register on the SWAYAM portal or mobile app, select their desired course, and access all study materials instantly. Upon completing assessments and quizzes, participants will receive digital certificates endorsed by NCERT.

This initiative aims to reduce digital and educational inequality by helping students—especially those in rural or underserved areas—gain access to expert-led teaching without financial barriers.
