Parineeti Chopra, Imtiaz Ali Celebrate ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’ International Emmy Nominations

Actor Parineeti Chopra and director Imtiaz Ali expressed their joy after their film ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’ received nominations at the International Emmy Awards 2025. The Netflix release has earned recognition in two prominent categories: Best Performance by an Actor for Punjabi star Diljit Dosanjh, and Best TV Movie.

The cast and crew extended heartfelt thanks to each other and to the people of Punjab for supporting the project.

The biopic chronicles the life of Amar Singh Chamkila, one of Punjab’s most influential and controversial folk singers. Diljit Dosanjh portrays Chamkila, while Parineeti plays Amarjot, his partner.

Parineeti shared her excitement on Instagram Stories, writing, “Wohooo, proud of my team Chamkila.”

Director Imtiaz Ali, speaking to Hindustan Times, said, “In the joy of these nominations, the first name that comes to mind is ‘Chamkila’, who lived the life that we could make a film about. He experienced the highs and lows of that tragic period in Punjab. He and Amarjot (played by Parineeti Chopra) represent the irony of Punjab, and as true children of the land, they lived its story.”

Imtiaz Ali also expressed gratitude to Punjab and its people, saying, “I am eternally grateful for allowing me to be present and participate in their stories,” while extending thanks to the film’s team and collaborators.

Earlier, Diljit Dosanjh shared his appreciation, posting on Instagram, “It's all because of Imtiaz Ali Sir.”

Set against the vibrant backdrop of Punjab, the film explores Chamkila’s journey from a budding musician to a cultural icon, highlighting his profound influence on Punjabi music and the controversies surrounding his lyrics and performances.
