PM Modi Launches BSNL’s ‘Swadeshi’ 4G Network, Commissions 98,000 Mobile Towers in Odisha

Jharsuguda, Odisha, Sep 27, 2025 (PTI): In a major boost to India’s telecom infrastructure, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated BSNL’s ‘Swadeshi’ 4G network on Saturday and commissioned over 97,500 mobile towers, including 92,600 4G technology sites across Odisha.

Built at a cost of around ₹37,000 crore, these towers employ 100% indigenous technology, marking India’s entry into the elite group of countries like Denmark, Sweden, South Korea, and China that manufacture homegrown telecom equipment.

The cloud-based, future-ready 4G network can seamlessly upgrade to 5G, supporting PM Modi’s vision of a Digital India, bridging the digital divide, and empowering rural communities.

Key Highlights:

  • Over 26,700 previously unconnected villages, including 2,472 in Odisha, will now have mobile connectivity.

  • The rollout will benefit over 20 lakh new subscribers.

  • Solar-powered towers make this India’s largest cluster of green telecom infrastructure.

  • PM Modi also unveiled India’s 100% 4G saturation network through the Digital Bharat Nidhi project, connecting 29,000–30,000 villages in mission mode.

The Swadeshi 4G network represents a transformative step for India’s telecommunication ecosystem, paving the way for BSNL’s 5G upgrade and integration while prioritizing sustainability and rural connectivity.
