R Ashwin Registers for ILT20 Auction Following IPL and International Retirement

Former India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has taken the next step in his cricketing journey by registering for the upcoming ILT20 auction. Earlier this month, Ashwin announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he last represented Chennai Super Kings (CSK), bringing an end to a remarkable 17-year-long IPL career.

Ashwin concluded his international career in 2024 after the Boxing Day Test against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Now, the veteran spinner aims to continue showcasing his skills in overseas T20 leagues, starting with the ILT20, which has completed three editions so far. The latest season saw Dubai Capitals emerge as champions after defeating the Desert Vipers in the final.

In an interaction with Cricbuzz, Ashwin expressed optimism about the upcoming auction:

“I have sent my name for the ILT20 auction. Hopefully, I will have a buyer.”

Playing Without Regrets

Ashwin has consistently emphasized that cricket brings him immense joy and that he intends to continue playing the sport on his own terms. The off-spinner expressed a desire to explore “paths less travelled,” explaining that his decision to retire from IPL was motivated by his wish to seek new challenges abroad.

“It was there. In my mind, I want to really enjoy cricket in the final stages of my career. I don’t want any regrets in life. I will definitely keep playing cricket. For me, cricket is a source of great joy.” – R Ashwin

IPL Legacy

During his IPL career, Ashwin featured in 221 matches, claiming 187 wickets, finishing as the fifth-highest wicket-taker in the tournament’s history. Both beginning and concluding his IPL journey with CSK, he lifted the trophy twice — in 2010 and 2011 — leaving behind a legacy of consistency and skill.

Ashwin’s next challenge in the ILT20 represents not just a continuation of his illustrious career, but an opportunity to leave a mark in global T20 cricket once again. Fans and franchises alike will watch closely as the veteran spinner embarks on this new chapter.
