Rishab Shetty, director and lead of Kantara: Chapter 1, expressed humility after veteran filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma praised his work. The film has achieved massive success, earning over Rs 451 crore worldwide in its first week and crossing Rs 300 crore in India.

Varma called Shetty a pioneer, saying, “All filmmakers in India should feel ashamed”, and highlighted his disruptive approach to cinema.

Shetty’s Gracious Response

In an interview with Zoom, Shetty recounted Varma’s excitement:

“After watching the film, he called me in excitement… I don’t think in terms of competition or records; those things don’t matter.”

He described himself as a “bachcha” in the film industry, emphasizing the influence of industry legends:

“I’m still a kid in the film industry, while he’s a legend who has made iconic films. For him to praise Kantara is a huge thing – I can hardly accept it.”

Kantara: Chapter 1 – A Box Office Hit

The film stars Rukmini Vasanth, Gulshan Devaiah, and Jayaram, with Shetty both directing and playing the lead. It explores Berme’s journey against oppression, setting the tone for the franchise. Its popularity reflects strong audience engagement and impressive box office numbers.
