Suryakumar Yadav Consoles Dunith Wellalage After India’s Thrilling Super Over Win

Wellalage, 22, recently lost his father, Suranga Wellalage, to a heart attack. Despite his grief, he joined the Sri Lankan squad for the Super 4 stage, demonstrating courage and commitment.
After the nail-biting Super Over, which India narrowly won, Yadav approached Wellalage on the field, placing a comforting hand on his shoulder, speaking words of support, and sharing a warm embrace. India edge past Sri Lanka in thriller
India maintained their unbeaten run in the 2025 Asia Cup, posting 202/5 in their innings. Abhishek Sharma led the charge with 61 off 31 balls, marking his third consecutive half-century. Tilak Varma remained unbeaten on 49, while Sanju Samson contributed 39 runs.
Sri Lanka fought back valiantly, with Pathum Nissanka scoring a tournament-first century—107 off 58 balls—and sharing a crucial 127-run partnership with Kusal Perera (58), leveling the match and forcing a Super Over.
In the one-over decider, Arshdeep Singh delivered a spectacular performance, conceding just 2 runs and taking 2 wickets in 5 balls. Suryakumar Yadav sealed India’s victory on the first ball of their chase with a 3-run shot off Wanindu Hasaranga.
