Two Terrorists Killed in Kupwara: Army Foils Infiltration Attempt Along LoC in J&K

Tension gripped Jammu and Kashmir’s border district of Kupwara late Monday night after two terrorists were killed in a fierce gunfight along the Line of Control (LoC). The encounter took place near the Machil and Dudniyal sectors, where Indian Army troops successfully foiled a suspected infiltration attempt from across the border.

According to official sources, security forces detected suspicious movement near the Machil LoC around 7 PM. Troops immediately opened fire after issuing a challenge, triggering a brief but intense exchange of gunfire. The infiltrators, believed to be heavily armed, were neutralized in the operation.

“In the Kupwara sector of Jammu and Kashmir, Indian Army troops observed suspicious movement along the Line of Control and fired towards it. Operations are ongoing in the area,” Indian Army officials said in a statement quoted by ANI. The encounter site remains under heavy surveillance, as combing operations continue to ensure that no additional infiltrators remain hidden in the dense forest terrain.

In a parallel development, multiple blasts were reported in the Dudniyal sector, raising concerns about a coordinated infiltration attempt. Security personnel fired illuminating flares to monitor the area, while additional reinforcements were dispatched to block potential escape routes.

This latest incident comes amid a renewed surge in militant activity and ceasefire violations along the LoC. Intelligence inputs in recent weeks have warned of increased movement of terror groups across launch pads in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), particularly ahead of the winter season when infiltration routes are expected to close due to snowfall.

Kupwara, located close to the treacherous mountain terrain of the LoC, has historically been one of the most sensitive infiltration zones in Jammu and Kashmir. Security forces have maintained heightened vigilance to prevent any cross-border infiltration attempts that could destabilize the region’s fragile peace.

The Indian Army, along with the Jammu and Kashmir Police and intelligence agencies, continues to coordinate closely to eliminate terror threats and secure the LoC. Counter-infiltration operations are still in progress, and officials have not ruled out the possibility of more militants being present in the area.
