Varun Chakravarthy Explains His Attack-Focused Role in India’s Asia Cup Bowling Lineup

India spinner Varun Chakravarthy detailed his role in the team’s bowling strategy after a strong performance against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup 2025 Super 4s on September 24. Chakravarthy picked up 2 wickets for 29 runs in 4 overs, underlining his attacking mindset despite conceding some early runs.

Attack Over Economy
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Varun emphasized his philosophy in the powerplay. “The only aim is to look for wickets and it’s just about finding that one ball. If it pitches on the right spot and turns slightly, the batter can edge it. My role is to attack continuously, even if I give away a few runs,” he said.

Chakravarthy’s approach paid off after a tricky first over, where he went for 13 runs. He bounced back to claim two crucial wickets, demonstrating why he is currently at the top of the ICC T20I rankings.

A Work in Progress
Varun has continued refining his skills beyond bowling. After the IPL, he participated in the Tamil Nadu Premier League, followed by focused practice on his batting and fielding. “I got a break after the tournament and practiced a lot, especially working on my batting and fielding. That’s been my focus,” he added.

With 4 wickets in as many matches, Varun is expected to be a key player in India’s final Super 4s clash against Sri Lanka on September 26, as the team looks to secure their spot in the Asia Cup 2025 final.

Varun Chakravarthy’s aggressive mindset highlights India’s strategy to dominate opposition from the outset, making him a vital asset in the T20I setup.
