Zelenskyy Fact-Checks Trump, Calls for Stronger Europe-India Ties

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy clarified India’s stance on the Russia-Ukraine war, saying that “India is mostly with Ukraine”, countering former US President Donald Trump’s claim that New Delhi was funding Russia. Zelenskyy acknowledged energy challenges but expressed optimism that India could shift its approach towards Russian energy.

Speaking with Fox News anchor Bret Baier, Zelenskyy highlighted the importance of closer cooperation between Europe and India to influence New Delhi’s position on Russia. He also noted that recent talks with Trump were more positive, emphasizing shared goals to end the war quickly.

Zelenskyy added his view on Iran, stating that it “will never be on our side”, and reiterated that Russian President Putin claims victory despite not succeeding on the battlefield.

Earlier, Zelenskyy had discussed with Prime Minister Narendra Modi the role India could play in bringing the conflict to a resolution. India has consistently defended its oil trade with Russia as legal under international law, highlighting that Western nations continue to buy Russian goods.

Trump, during the 80th UN General Assembly, had criticized India and China for supposedly financing Moscow through energy imports, a statement Zelenskyy directly fact-checked.
