Actor Pankaj Tripathi has shared why he chose to be part of filmmaker Amit Rai's upcoming film Ohh My Dog, saying the project was created to leave a lasting emotional impact rather than pursue commercial success.
Speaking during the film's trailer launch, Tripathi stressed that meaningful stories deserve support regardless of the size of an actor's role or the film's box-office expectations.
Tripathi revealed that his role in the film is relatively small but said that was never a deciding factor.
According to the actor, the real strength of Ohh My Dog lies in its story, the performances of the child actor, and the film's canine characters, while he sees himself as someone who simply supported a project with a meaningful message.
He emphasised that artists should stand behind films that have the potential to create a positive social impact, even if they are not designed as large commercial entertainers.
Speaking about the film's prospects, Tripathi said he does not expect Ohh My Dog to chase blockbuster numbers.
Instead, he believes the true success of the film will depend on whether it connects emotionally with audiences and recovers its production costs.
According to the actor, meaningful cinema should be evaluated by the conversations it inspires and the impact it leaves on viewers rather than by box-office records alone.
Director Amit Rai praised Tripathi for accepting the role without questioning its length or significance.
The filmmaker said it is uncommon for established stars to join projects without considering the size of their role, adding that Tripathi's decision reflected his commitment to storytelling over stardom.
Rai noted that the actor's support strengthened the film and encouraged the team throughout production.
According to media reports, Pankaj Tripathi did not charge a fee for his appearance in Ohh My Dog because of his association with Amit Rai and his appreciation for the script.
Reports also suggest that the actor extended his shooting schedule to help complete filming smoothly.
However, neither the actor nor the filmmakers have officially commented on these reports.
Ohh My Dog marks the acting debut of Maahi Rai, the son of director Amit Rai.
The film also features Pavan Malhotra and Rajesh Sharma in important roles.
The family drama is scheduled for a theatrical release on July 31, with the makers positioning it as a heartfelt story that prioritises emotion and social relevance over commercial spectacle.
The actor said he believed in the film's meaningful story and wanted to support a project that could make an emotional impact.
No. Tripathi has said that he appears in only a few scenes and considers the film's story and other performers to be its main strengths.
He said the film was not made to earn massive commercial collections but to touch people's hearts and recover its investment.
Media reports claim that the actor did not charge for the film, though there has been no official confirmation from the makers.
The film has been directed by Amit Rai.
The film is scheduled to release in theatres on July 31.
