Actor and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has put an end to speculation about his future in cinema by officially announcing a new film, marking a reversal of his earlier stance of stepping away from movies. The announcement confirms his first-ever collaboration with director Surender Reddy, signalling that the star-politician is not done with the big screen yet.
The project was announced on New Year’s Eve, instantly generating excitement among fans who had believed that Ustaad Bhagat Singh might be Pawan Kalyan’s final film. In recent months, the actor had been largely focused on his political responsibilities, particularly after assuming office as Andhra Pradesh’s Deputy Chief Minister, leading to widespread belief that his acting commitments would be scaled back or concluded altogether.
The new film will be produced by Ram Talluri under the Jaithra Rama Movies banner and brings together a notable creative combination. Screenwriter Vakkantham Vamsi has been roped in to pen the script, reuniting with Surender Reddy after their earlier collaboration on Agent in 2023. While Agent failed to find favour at the box office, both Surender Reddy and Vakkantham Vamsi have individually delivered several commercially successful films in the past.
Surender Reddy is known for mounting large-scale action dramas and previously directed Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy, starring Chiranjeevi, who is also Pawan Kalyan’s elder brother. That film enjoyed a respectable theatrical run and reinforced the director’s reputation for handling star-driven spectacles.
Interestingly, this trio had initially planned to collaborate as early as 2021, but the project was shelved due to various delays and shifting priorities. Its revival after several years suggests renewed alignment in schedules and creative intent, making the announcement particularly significant for fans of both the actor and the director.
While the makers have not yet revealed details about the film’s genre, cast, or shooting timeline, the announcement alone has been enough to spark widespread discussion. Given Surender Reddy’s track record, expectations are that the project will be mounted on a grand scale, potentially blending mass action elements with a strong narrative core suited to Pawan Kalyan’s screen persona.
On the acting front, Pawan Kalyan was last seen in They Call Him OG, directed by Sujeeth. The film emerged as the highest-grossing Telugu release of 2025, reaffirming his box-office pull even amid his political rise. He is also set to appear in Ustaad Bhagat Singh, directed by Harish Shankar, which is scheduled for release in 2026.
The announcement of this new collaboration suggests that Pawan Kalyan intends to carefully balance cinema with public service rather than abandoning films altogether. For fans, the news comes as a major New Year surprise, reopening hopes of seeing the star in more high-profile projects even as his political journey continues.
