Siddhant Chaturvedi, Alizeh Agnihotri to Star in Hindi Remake of La Famille Bélier

Actors Siddhant Chaturvedi and Alizeh Agnihotri are set to collaborate for the first time in the Hindi remake of the acclaimed French film La Famille Bélier. The upcoming musical drama will be directed by Vikas Bahl and is expected to blend emotional storytelling with music-driven narrative, focusing on themes of family responsibility, personal ambition, and self-discovery.

Originally released in 2014, La Famille Bélier is a French-Belgian comedy-drama that tells the story of a teenage girl who grows up as the sole hearing member of a deaf family. Acting as her parents’ interpreter in daily life, her world changes when her singing talent is discovered, forcing her to make a difficult choice between pursuing her dreams and staying back to support her family. The film was widely praised for its sensitive portrayal of disability, family bonds, and youthful aspiration.

The story later found global recognition through its English-language adaptation CODA, which went on to win the Academy Award for Best Picture. The Hindi remake is said to draw inspiration from both the original French version and its Oscar-winning adaptation, while retaining its own distinct cultural identity.

According to those close to the project, the Hindi adaptation will remain faithful to the emotional core of the original while contextualising the narrative for Indian audiences. The film is described as a musical drama that explores talent and sacrifice, with music playing a central role in the protagonist’s journey. Comparisons have already been drawn to classic Hindi cinema that balanced music with emotional depth, indicating a tone that is heartfelt rather than commercial spectacle-driven.

Siddhant Chaturvedi, who has steadily built a reputation for choosing layered roles, was last seen in the 2025 romantic drama Dhadak 2, where his performance received attention for its emotional maturity. This project marks another step in his transition toward character-driven cinema. Alizeh Agnihotri, meanwhile, made her acting debut in 2023 with the heist thriller Farrey. The remake is expected to be a significant film in her early career, offering her a role that demands emotional nuance and musical expression.

Production for the film is expected to begin between June and August 2026. Pre-production work is reportedly underway, including music composition and script adaptation, with a focus on ensuring authenticity in both performance and representation. Casting details for supporting roles, including the family members, are yet to be officially announced.

Vikas Bahl, known for handling emotionally grounded narratives alongside mainstream cinema, is expected to bring a restrained and sensitive approach to the adaptation. The director is also collaborating with Siddhant Chaturvedi on another project, Dil Ka Darwaza Khol Na Darling, a family entertainer featuring veteran actors, indicating an ongoing creative partnership.

With its combination of strong source material, music-driven storytelling, and a fresh lead pairing, the Hindi remake of La Famille Bélier is already generating interest. As Indian cinema continues to adapt international stories through a local lens, this project aims to deliver an emotionally resonant experience rooted in family, identity, and the courage to follow one’s voice.
