Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday hoisted the sacred saffron Dharmadhwaj atop the newly completed Ayodhya Ram Temple, marking another historic milestone in the decades-long Ram Janmabhoomi movement. The ceremony, attended by top dignitaries, sadhus and thousands of devotees, symbolised what the Prime Minister called the “healing of centuries-old wounds.”
The ceremonial flag—triangular in shape and featuring a radiant Sun (Suryavansh lineage), the sacred ‘Om’, and the Kovidara tree—was installed on the temple’s Shikhar, completing the architectural construction of the Ram Mandir. PM Modi performed special prayers before addressing the gathering.
In his address, the Prime Minister said the moment marks the culmination of a 500-year struggle rooted in devotion, perseverance and cultural continuity.
“The wounds of centuries are healing, the pain of centuries is finding respite. This is the fulfilment of a resolve that never broke faith for even a moment,” he said.
Modi praised the spiritual and cultural resurgence reflected through the Dhwajarohan and urged citizens to embrace the values of Ram Rajya — duty, truth, unity and justice.
Calling the flag a banner of India’s renaissance, PM Modi said its symbols embody the ideals of Ram Rajya and represent India’s cultural awakening.
He added that the Dharmadhwaj will serve as a reminder that “life may go, but the word must not,” emphasising the principles of action, duty and unwavering commitment.
PM Modi urged the nation to adopt a long-term perspective as India moves toward its 2047 goals.
He said:
“Those who think only of the present do injustice to future generations. India existed before us and will live long after us. We must build the foundation for the next 1,000 years.”
Reiterating his call to shed the remnants of colonial mindset, the PM said India must reclaim its cultural confidence.
“Democracy is India’s gift to the world. It is in our DNA. We must rise above the inferiority that colonial thinking left behind,” he stated.
PM Modi highlighted the unifying message of Lord Ram.
“Ram unites through emotion, not division. What matters to him is devotion, not lineage. The Sapt Mandapam reflects values of friendship, duty and social harmony,” he said.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, speaking earlier, called the moment the beginning of a new era.
“This grand temple is the symbol of the faith and self-respect of 140 crore Indians,” he said. “The saffron flag represents the immortal light of Dharma.”
RSS Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat said the completion of the temple has given peace to countless souls who sacrificed their lives over centuries.
“For 500 years our truth was questioned. Today, that truth stands established,” he said.
As the flag ascended the Shikhar crafted in traditional Nagara architecture, and surrounded by the massive 800-metre Parkota, the city witnessed scenes of celebration, devotion and national pride.
