Prince Narula Explains Why He Joined The 50, Responds to Mentor Controversy

Reality television star Prince Narula has opened up about his decision to participate in The 50, addressing both his motivation for joining the show and the criticism surrounding his role as a former mentor competing alongside younger contestants. Appearing on the show with his wife Yuvika Chaudhary, Narula said the decision was driven purely by his desire to give back to his fans.

Within the first two episodes, Narula has already emerged as a strong presence on the show, winning the opening task and helping a fan secure a cash prize. Despite this strong start, the actor admitted that he was initially reluctant to return to reality television as a contestant.

Narula said he had declined multiple reality show offers in recent years, but agreed to The 50 after being convinced that its format was fundamentally different. According to him, the show focuses on rewarding fans rather than individual glory, which aligned with his personal values. He emphasised that his career has been shaped by fan support and that participating in a format where fans directly benefit made the experience meaningful.

Addressing speculation that he is attempting to extend his record as one of Indian television’s most successful reality show winners, Narula acknowledged that while winning is always a goal, it is not his sole motivation. He added that the dynamics of reality television change rapidly and that overconfidence can end a contestant’s journey at any point.

The actor also spoke about competing on the show alongside his wife, describing the experience as both emotionally reassuring and strategically challenging. While being together offers strength, it also makes them potential targets within the game. Narula shared that leaving their young child at home with grandparents was the most difficult aspect of committing to the show, but he believes the experience will one day make their family proud.

Responding to online criticism over participating in a show with contestants he has mentored in the past, Narula firmly rejected claims of unfair advantage. He stated that mentoring does not imply superiority and that every contestant on the show has earned their place on merit. He added that the presence of other senior television personalities further proves that the competition is balanced and inclusive.

Narula also reflected on his evolution over the years, noting that he is now calmer and more responsible compared to his early days on reality shows. He credited platforms like Roadies and Splitsvilla for launching his career and expressed appreciation for how such shows continue to create opportunities for young talent. On the acting front, he hinted that new projects are in the pipeline.

The 50 is currently streaming on JioHotstar and features a diverse lineup of contestants from across the entertainment industry.
