Punjab Govt Launches 24x7 Helpline for Tourists Stranded in Middle East

The Punjab government has launched a dedicated 24x7 helpline to assist Punjabis stranded in parts of the Middle East as escalating regional conflicts continue to disrupt travel, flights and daily life.

Punjab NRI Affairs Minister Dr Ravjyot Singh announced that the state administration has activated its NRI Wing control room following reports that Punjabi tourists, workers and residents in affected Arab nations are facing serious difficulties due to flight cancellations and security concerns.

“Because of the conflict in Arab countries, many Punjabis in those nations are facing difficulties,” the minister said during a press interaction in Chandigarh. He urged families whose relatives are stranded abroad to immediately contact the state’s NRI Wing for assistance.

Coordination With Centre and Embassies

The Punjab government said it is in constant touch with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to ensure timely support and coordination through Indian embassies and diplomatic channels.

Dr Ravjyot Singh confirmed that the state is working closely with central authorities to facilitate help for those impacted by the ongoing crisis. “We are committed to providing all necessary assistance as soon as possible,” he said.

Officials indicated that support efforts include tracking stranded individuals, coordinating with Indian missions abroad and ensuring families in Punjab receive updates regarding their relatives.

Growing Concern Over Travel Disruptions

The announcement comes amid continued airspace restrictions and flight suspensions across parts of West Asia following military escalation in the region. Thousands of Indian nationals from various states have been affected by cancellations and delays.

State officials emphasised that while evacuation measures depend on prevailing security conditions and reopening of regional airspace, every possible effort is being made to ensure the safety and welfare of Punjabis abroad.

The helpline is expected to play a critical role in coordinating relief efforts and bridging communication between stranded individuals and their families back home.
