Punjab Police Order Probe into Batala Traffic Cops’ Alleged Pre-Wedding Shoot Video

The Punjab Police has ordered a departmental inquiry after a video surfaced online allegedly showing traffic personnel from Batala participating in what was described as a “pre-wedding shoot” linked to a local political leader.

The controversy erupted after senior Bikram Singh Majithia of the Shiromani Akali Dal shared the video on social media. He claimed that serving police personnel were seen acting in a private video shoot connected to newly appointed Batala Market Committee Chairman Engineer Manik Mehta, who is reportedly associated with the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

Majithia questioned the state’s security priorities, especially in light of the recent killing of two police personnel at the international border in Gurdaspur district. He described it as concerning that police staff were allegedly being used in private shoots at a time when law enforcement officers face serious security challenges.

In his remarks, Majithia asked Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav to clarify how serving officers were permitted to take part in such activities. He also called for the suspension of both the Market Committee Chairman and the police personnel allegedly involved.

Official Response

Following the circulation of the video, Batala Deputy Superintendent of Police Tajinderpal Singh confirmed that action had been initiated.

According to the DSP, the video shows members of the Batala traffic staff appearing in a private production without prior departmental approval. He stated that a departmental inquiry has been launched against the officials concerned for alleged indiscipline.

Authorities are expected to examine whether proper permissions were sought and whether any departmental rules were violated.

Political and Public Reaction

The incident has sparked debate over the role and conduct of serving police personnel in non-official activities. While opposition leaders have criticised the alleged involvement of uniformed officers in private shoots, police officials have stated that the inquiry will determine the facts.

The case has also drawn attention to larger concerns about law enforcement discipline and protocol in Punjab. Officials have not yet issued a detailed statement regarding potential disciplinary measures, pending the outcome of the investigation.

The departmental probe is currently underway, and further action will depend on the findings of the inquiry committee.
